WrestleMania XXX: Day 1-Friday, April 4th

Bonjour, Y'all!  Got to visit New Orleans for the first time during WrestleMania XXX last weekend.  Thought I would take a moment and revisit all the fun by sharing my experience in the Crescent City.  After arriving Friday evening, we made our way over to The Ernest N. Morial Convention Center for WrestleMania Axxess.  As soon as you opened the door to enter the lobby, there was none other than WWE Hall of Famer Bob Backlund, who was on hand taking pictures with fans for forty bucks.

Good Call/Bad Call-Ate Up With Stupid

Welcome!  With the breakthrough launch of the WWE Network, it's a great time to be a wrestling fan.  This is if you are actually able to view the content.  There's been some glitches along the way especially when it comes to those that are trying to watch via Xbox 360.  Let's hope they can work out all the kinks before WrestleMania comes around.  That's what's best for business.

Speaking of WrestleMania, we are well on The Road to WrestleMania and so far it's been quite the bumpy ride.  For the second straight year, WWE dropped the ball with another predictable and disappointing Royal Rumble.  I'm one of the very slim minority that doesn't HATE Batista, but he hasn't necessarily been too impressive since his return.  Just read where CM Punk is set to return for tonight's RAW in Chicago and there's a possibility that he may be added to the main event, making it a triple threat.  That would be an improvement.  Guess we shall wait and see.  That crowd is going bonkers either way.

The Undertaker/Brock Lesnar matchup is the most intriguing to me because you know those two will deliver.  And Paul Heyman is involved making things even more entertaining.

Daniel Bryan is on top of the wrestling world with his YES Movement.  Wish they wouldn't waste him on a match with Triple H.  Ain't nobody got time for that!  Bryan will run circles around The Game.

The match I want to see is a triple threat to decide who really is the best of The Shield.  Now, that would steal the show and blow the roof off the Superdome!  Believe Dat!

Funny Video Time!

PLEASE be advised that this guy has probably had the cops called on him many, many times so don't try this in your neighborhood drive-thru.  This FizzyPops3434 character has many of these videos on YouTube including those featuring the likes of Fandango, Goldust, Triple H, Hulk Hogan, Macho Man, Mankind and many more.  I'm sure Jim Cornette is one proud papa.

I have to admit that I have enjoyed the last three weeks of IMPACT.  Pretty sure it costs them a ton of money to travel internationally, but those packed stadiums really gives off a big match feel that is lacking for them over here in the states.  Plus it seems that creatively they are finally starting to do their own thing instead of just ripping off what WWE is doing at the moment.  Digging the additions of MVP and The Wolves, Davey Richards and Eddie Edwards.  If you're not familiar with The Wolves, do yourself a favor and check those guys out because they are one kickass tag-team.  Also excited at the recent news that The Great Muta will be wrestling at Lockdown.  Looking forward to seeing just where the company is headed following the pay-per-view.

Has anybody seen Gail Kim lately?  Just curious if you've checked out her facial features.  Seriously bummed out about this because it appears she's had some work done.  She looks completely different now.  Baby Girl, Why?!  Oh, the humanity!

Good Call/Bad Call-FEBRUANY

FINALLY...D-Rock has come back in 2013! Hope all you Great Ones are electrifying the new year! OK, enough of that because Lord knows I don't need this behemoth looking for me...WARNING: He drops a few F-Bombs during this silly tirade:

So, let's just say there's some unhappy people following this year's Royal Rumble WWE Championship match and to make matters worse John Cena won the 30-Man over the top-rope Rumble match. Insert expletive here __________!  However, we did see a couple surprise entrants in the Rumble. Chris Jericho, Goldust and The Godfather all returned. Since The Godfather was eliminated so fast, I was hoping maybe we would get a Papa Shango or Kama return as well. It's shaping up to be Cena/Rock 2 at this year's WrestleMania. Not really a fan of rematches at Mania, but anxious to see how the rest of the card will unfold. Brock Lesnar has also joined The Road To WrestleMania, by putting Vince on the shelf courtesy of a ferocious F-5 the RAW after the Rumble. Actually thought The Undertaker might return at the Rumble too, but he decided to come back during the Super Bowl instead. Or was it The Shield that caused the power outage?
No, not that "Shield"....this one
Then again, maybe the first one was responsible.  Hmmm....Food for thought?  That Roger Goodell sure is sneaky.

What if Booker T, Damien Sandow, Daniel Bryan, Vickie Guerrero and The Miz were all running for public office. Their debate would go something like this: "Silence!"  "Tell me, you didn't just say that!"  "Really?" "YES" "Excuse me!"  "You're welcome!"  "Now, can you dig that, Suckaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa"  "NO!"

Big props to WWE for continuing to pursue "The Italian Superman" Bruno Sammartino for the WWE Hall of Fame. The hard work paid off because this year Bruno accepted the invitation and now will be inducted in Madison Square Garden. It will truly be a momentous event to watch as "The Living Legend" Bruno Sammartino is honored on that special evening. From what I heard, Triple H was a key factor in getting Bruno's approval. Pretty sure, Triple H and Hall of Famer Bret "The Hitman" Hart won't be sitting together at the ceremony due to Bret's recent bashing of "The Game". Here's the two interviews:

Switching gears now to TNA, where the whole show is basically built around the Aces & Eights, Hogan, Sting, Bully Ray and Brooke. Thought it was a nice swerve having Taz join the Aces & Eights, but was disappointed the following week when he rejoined the announce table. I would rather see him in more of a managerial role.  Personally and this is wishful thinking because it will never happen, Who better to be the voice of your company than "The Immortal" Hulk Hogan?  That legendary voice could get any wrestler over and really make your product one of a kind. The only problem is Hulk would have to give up a little bit of the spotlight, quit sueing everybody each week and stop taking pictures of his daughter's legs.

Looking back at IWF Slam

Just wanted to share this link to some classic IWF videos that are online.  Back in tha day, I couldn't wait for the weekend to get here so I could head to the Salvation Army in Tupelo to check out IWF with friends.  This match features a war between Neil "Real Deal" Taylor and Justin Envy for the Southern Heavyweight Championship.  Also Kimble Winstead and "Hollywood" Jimmy are hilarious on commentary, firing insults back and forth throughout the bout.  Enjoy!

Report from TNA IMPACT WRESTLING BASEBRAWL at AutoZone Park in Memphis-July 14, 2012

At noon on Saturday there was a special meet and greet held at the Direct Auto Insurance building on Covington Pike in Memphis. They had a neat setup with local radio station K97 on hand. Also they had all sorts of ticket giveaways and other drawings for a chance to win some TNA merchandise. The fine people at Direct even hooked us up with water and Domino's pizza. How cool is that! There was a great turnout to meet IMPACT WRESTLING Superstars "The Pope" D'Angelo Dinero, “The Cowboy” James Storm, Velvet Sky and The World Heavyweight Champion Austin Aries. This reminded me of the good ole days back in Tupelo when WCW would run a pay-per-view and have wrestlers signing at Southern Housing, Roper Toyota and Blockbuster Video. I'm sure there's a few of you out there that remember that.

Not only did you receive just an autograph from Austin Aries, but from time to time "A Double" would label it with authenticity by adding "The Greatest Mustache Ever Drawn"

At around five thirty, fans that purchased the fifty dollar tickets were able to enter AutoZone Park for a special meet and greet before the show. However, before this could happen, Don West's Apprentice, Jimmy J, had to give us the lowdown on all of the INSANE deals for the night. First, he went through all the goodies that the Jeff Hardy VIPs would be getting along with the custom made purple Louisville Slugger baseball bat. The famous Brown Bag Special consisted of the program, celebrating ten years of TNA, a new IMPACT WRESTLING t-shirt, an action figure and four dvds for only thirty bucks. Next, was a deal for twenty dollars you would get one of the last remaining packages of Beer Money action figures and get to go backstage to get both “The Cowboy” James Storm and "The It Factor" Bobby Roode to sign it. Finally the last deal was for the new Official TNA Heavyweight Championship Replica Belt. For three hundred and seventy-five dollars not only would you get the belt, but pretty much everything else. You would also receive all the items in the Brown Bag Special, the Beer Money figures and a special meet and greet with Austin Aries and Jeff Hardy at the end of the night.

Speaking of DVDs, wrestler Sal Rinauro, from The Wrestling Road Diaries fame was working the gimmick table. Here he is pictured with Katelyn.

Once "Handsome" Jimmy.....I mean Jimmy J was done with his sales pitch, we were able to go to our seats where IMPACT WRESTLING STARS Devon, Garett Bischoff, "The Pope" D'Angelo Dinero, Magnus and The World Tag-Team Champions, Kazarian & "The Fallen Angel" Christopher Daniels came out of the tunnel to sign autographs on the field.

It's showtime! Since Jeremy Borash was over in the UK, None other than Memphis Announcing, Wrestling, Managing Extraordinaire and Host of 101.7 Kiss FM Jonesboro's Morning Show, Brandon Baxter, would serve as the honorary host for the night's festivities!

Opening Match-Knockouts Action-Madison Rayne defeated Velvet Sky with a schoolgirl, by pulling the pigeons' feathers....uh tights.

Senior Referee Earl Hebner made his way to the ring to a warm round of boos. Once inside, Earl took his official's uniform off to show off his, "Damn right I did!" shirt. However this time, he put on a pair of Bret's signature sunglasses and did some crotch chops and pelvic thrusting. The place went nuts! Madison must have got him some blue pills.

Bound For Glory Series Match-Mr. Anderson defeated "The Pope" D'Angelo Dinero with The Mic Check to earn seven points. After the match, Mr. Anderson went up to a couple kids, getting them to say, "ANDERSON!!!"

Bound For Glory Series Match-“The Cowboy” James Storm defeated Magnus with the Last Call Superkick to earn seven points. During the match, while outside the ring, Storm was going around getting the fans to put their feet up so he could throw Magnus into them. At one point, a fan took off his prosthetic leg and gave it to Storm to use and Storm did just that. You could tell "The Cowboy" was loving it.

The weather was looking rough so to avoid a possible rain delay like last year, Brandon Baxter announced that they were gonna continue without having an intermission to make sure everybody got to see all the matches.

"The Charismatic Enigma" Jeff Hardy defeated Crimson with the Twist of Fate. Hardy received a HUGE pop as always.

World Tag-Team Champions Daniels & Kazarian defeated Television Champion Devon & Garett Bischoff with a hi-lo finisher on Garett. Daniels and Kaz were dancing on the way to the ring. Daniels even quoted a few lines from a popular Rod Stewart song saying, "If you want my body and you think I'm sexy" Kaz was talking about Memphis being the home of Rock and roll, but the people lacked the proper hygiene. That was entertaining. Garett still is a working progress.

Main Event-World Heavyweight Championship Destination X Rematch-Champion Austin Aries defeated Bobby Roode with the brainbuster to retain. Roode got a TON of heat. Didn't think he was going to make it to the ring because he was having an intense confrontation with IWA Referee, Dontavis Wakin in the tunnel. Aries and Roode fought all over the place, out on the field and even into the stands at AutoZone Park. After the match, Roode didn't take things too well. Imagine that. He chased after Brandon Baxter, Referees Earl and Brian Hebner, Jimmy J and other TNA staff. After Roode's fireworks, it was announced that three months ago, Senior Referee Earl Hebner after thirty plus years in the business refereed his 100,000 match. Wow! What a milestone. Jimmy J said that Earl Hebner would be signing his t-shirt at the merchandise table for ten dollars.

As an extra added bonus, while leaving I got to meet Brandon Baxter and Randy Hales for the first time ever, so that was a definite GOOD CALL!
